In co-operation with Surrey School District No. 36, B.C.I.T.'s School of Business offers a wide range of part-time evening courses at Princess Margaret Secondary School.
These courses may be credited towards three exciting certificate programs that will help you to keep up-to-date with current trends and business practices, pursue a new career, or advance in your present one:
Associate Certificate in Leadership (ASL)
In today's business environment, success is dependent on the leadership skills at all levels within the organization. Leaders are not necessarily found in the formal structure of an organization, but may emerge from within the group or from outside the group. It is essential for today's leader to understand their role and scope of influence both formally and informally in their organization. Excellent leaders foster high performance in their staff teams with the intent of realizing mutual goals while pursuing continuous improvement and development. The Associate Certificate in Leadership includes these six courses plus two electives: Organizational Behaviour 1, Human Resource Management, Leadership 1, Leadership 2, Managing Organizational Change 1, and Leadership 2000.
Entrepreneurship Associate Certificate
This special package of courses was designed to provide the essential information required by someone who wishes to start their own business, or for those who are already running a small business and wish to upgrade their business skills. The courses in this program focus on those areas which are the essence of any small business operation. The Entrepreneurship Associate Certificate includes these eight courses, but substitution of courses can be made to adjust to an individual's specific needs: Essentials of Marketing, Customer Relations, Professional Sales 1, Small Business Development, Introduction to Business, Entrepreneurial Management, MS Office Applications, and Accounting for the Manager.
Associate Certificate in Financial Planning (ACFP)
BCIT and the BC Chapter of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners have together designed this program of studies. Courses include: Personal Financial Planning 1, Accounting for the Manager, Investment and Risk Management, Taxation and Financial Planning, Economic Issues, Business Law, and Personal Financial Planning 2. Financial Management courses are recognized by these professional organizations: Canadian Association of Financial Planners, Canadian Institute of Bookkeeping, Credit Institute of Canada, Credit Union Institute of Canada, Financial Planners Standards Council of Canada, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, and Trust Companies Institute of Canada.
